Juan Antonio Quirós Castillo is a professor of Archaeology at the University of the Basque Country / Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea and is interested in the study of historical landscapes, subordinate groups, and social history. He leads the research project 'Iberian local societies in the Early medieval European context: Settings, Practices and Territorialities' funded by the Ministry of Science and Innovation. Among his recent works are 'Archaeology of Local Societies in the Early Middle Ages. San Julián de Aistra and the Residences of Rural Elites' (2023) and 'Local Societies and Peasantry Agencies in Medieval Iberia' (2024). He is currently preparing a volume on the archaeology of the medieval peasantry.
