About the Author

Juan Antonio Quirós Castillo is Professor of Archaeology at the University of the Basque Country / Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea. His research focuses on the study of historical landscapes, subaltern groups, and social history. He directs the research project “Iberian Local Societies in the Early Medieval European Context: Settings, Practices and Territorialities”, funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation. Among his recent works are “Arqueología de las sociedades locales en la Alta Edad Media. San Julián de Aistra y las residencias de las élites rurales” (2023) and “Local Societies and Peasantry Agencies in Medieval Iberia” (2024). He is currently preparing a volume on the archaeology of the medieval peasantry.
