About the Author

Antonino Cannata is a classical archaeologist specialising in Hellenistic and Roman material culture and, since 2017, Director of the Centro Studi Aditus in Rupe. He conducts research on landscape archaeology and coordinates projects on rock-cut sites in south-eastern Sicily, including the excavation of the tomb of Aristomenes and topographical studies at Cugno Martino and Cugno Case Vecchie (Syracuse). He has participated in excavation campaigns in collaboration with the University of Catania and the National Research Council (CNR) and has published extensively on urban archaeology, rural surveys, material culture, and exchanges from the Late Imperial period to the Middle Ages.


Alessandra Castorina holds a PhD from the University of Rome La Sapienza and specialises in classical archaeology, the history of archaeological research, and preventive archaeology. In 2005, she won a competition for the position of Technical Director Archaeologist at the Department of Cultural Heritage and Activities. She has directed numerous excavations in the provinces of Enna and Syracuse and is currently responsible for archaeological matters in northern Syracuse. She has published widely, taught at Italian universities, and coordinates research projects with the University of Catania, the Scuola Superiore Meridionale, and the University of Tuscia.


Marco Stefano Scaravilli is an archaeologist at the Italian Ministry of Culture (MIC). He has participated in numerous research projects in Italy and abroad, including the Italian Archaeological Mission at Nea Paphos (Cyprus). He has directed excavations and managed archaeological parks in southern Tyrrhenian Calabria, notably at Medma (Rosarno) and Tauriana (Palmi), and is currently Director of the Medma-Rosarno National Archaeological Museum and Park. His research focuses on classical archaeology, ancient ceramics, and rock-cut archaeology.
