José Luis Portillo-Sotelo (Algeciras, 1993) holds a PhD in Archaeology from the University of Cádiz and has been a researcher at the same university since 2018. He has nearly a hundred scientific publications and extensive experience in national and international research projects. His lines of work focus on the fishing and canning industry of the Strait of Gibraltar and the southeastern Iberian Peninsula, addressing issues related to maritime economy in Antiquity, ceramic production, and the commercial dynamics of the so-called 'Strait Circle'.
