Sinclair W. Bell is a Professor of Art History and a Distinguished Teaching Professor at Northern Illinois University. His research focuses on the art and archaeology of the Etruscans; sport and spectacle in the Roman imperial period; and slavery and freedom in the Roman world, especially the archaeological traces and visual culture of slaves, freed persons, and ethnic foreigners.
