This study analyses 22 sanctuaries and over 270 inscriptions to explore the cults of Demeter and Kore in Asia Minor and nearby islands. It reveals regional and Pan‑Hellenic features, showing largely Greek traditions with some local influences, especially in Caria, and limited spread where indigenous fertility cults remained dominant.

Bibliography
A. M. Sara Karatas is a classical archaeologist who earned her PhD at the University of Bristol. Her research focuses primarily on Greek religion, ritual practices, votive offerings, and sanctuaries. In addition to archaeological material, she has translated and analysed several hundred inscriptions, providing insight into religious regulations and ritual practice. Her work is characterised by a comprehensive approach that seeks to collect and analyse nearly all available evidence on a given subject in order to examine its features, diachronic developments, and cross-cultural connections. She has published on topics including the cultic regulation of dress codes, luxury clothing, incense offerings, the reuse of statues, the relationship between sanctuaries and wealthy individuals, and the sanctuaries of Demeter.
